Core Values

Compass strives to keep balance by maintaining three core values: UP, IN, OUT. We connect with God (UP), with one another (IN), and with our community (OUT). You can see these elements in everything we do.

Gather UP

We connect upward with God in everything we do. But our worship service is one of the primary ways we do this. Contemporary worship, prayer, Bible study, testimonies and communion, are a few of the ways we UP.

One of those days, Jesus went up on a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God. Luke 6:12

Jesus was in constant contact with his Father, whom he spoke of in a very personal, intimate, and familiar way. The source of Jesus’ success is found here in his UP relationship with his Father. He connected with God the Father regularly. He did what he saw the Father doing. And Jesus taught his disciples to do the same.

At Compass, we remind ourselves of the paramount importance of our connection with God (UP) by integrating upward elements in everything we do. Our groups, ministries and even social events always incorporate times of prayer, study or devotional thoughts that bring us closer to God. Our relationship with God the Father, through Jesus, provides the source of strength and inspiration for all we do.

Grow IN

We connect inward with one another in a variety of ways: Small Groups, meals, fellowship activities, etc. We emphasize these types of groups because Jesus did. He spent much of his life, together with a small group of his disciples.

“When morning came, [Jesus] called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated apostles…(Luke 6:13).”

After returning from a time connecting upward with The Father, Jesus called twelve people into his first small group. Why? Mark’s Gospel explains simply, “that he might be with them (Mk. 3:14).” Jesus understood that we were created to be related.

So, he drew people IN, to build strong relationships with each. This was the INward dimension of his relational life; and it should be ours too.

At Compass Church, we encourage everyone to plug IN. This is why our motto is: “Navigating Life Together.” We want to do life together, just like Jesus did. We encourage this by offering events and activities that make it easy to connect. Breakfasts, potlucks, picnics, parties, midweek classes and small groups are all ways we connect inwardly.

Go OUT

Going OUT to bring the message of Jesus to our community is accomplished through a varied and diverse means. In 2020, with COVID restrictions, we held a safe Back to Normal Sunday with a car show, food trucks, several bands and a Christian comedian.

We are looking forward to Going Out in the future. Making a difference in our community, we find that it truly is better to give than to receive.

He went down with them and stood on a level place. A large crowd of his disciples was there, and a great number of people…had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases.” (Luke 6:17-19)

Jesus never lost sight of his Father’s vision–to reach needy and lost people in the world. After connecting with The Father, and drawing close to a small group, together they shared the Kingdom of God with those OUTside. Jesus didn’t wait for people to come to him. He, and his disciples, went to them. They connected outwardly with people at their point of need. At Compass, we’re trying to do the same.

We support local needs, regional ministries, and global missionaries.

We actively reach out to our community in other personal and tangible ways. All our small groups contain an outward component.

  • We regularly pray for those in need and actively go to them.

  • We train small group participants to connect with those who are disconnected with Jesus.

Going OUT is one of the most thrilling experiences you’ll ever know, as a follower of Christ.
